6.5x32 Helios Aquila MS (1 Viewer)

Binastro

Well-known member
143m 8.2 deg Fully broadband multicoated BaK 4 prisms Porro 17mm eye relief
Nitrogen filled waterproof and fogproof.
Near focus 3.5m. Actually for me 9m or 30ft. This is probably why it was traded, as the dioptre set up is faulty and barely enough for me. Would suit myopia.
It should have been exchanged for a properly set up example.

But I like this binocular on initial viewing.
Mint minus.
Bright image in bright sunshine. Minimal CA centrally some at edge.
Mild pincushion.
FOV ~8 deg.
500.5g (500g advertised).
Good 3D
Too much eye relief for me eye cups not quite long enough but O.K.
Nice binocular lightweight easy to hold.
All surfaces green multicoated except one purple each side. Cemented objectives.
Plastic.
Matt black inside but minimal baffling.
Ghosting some, will check later.
Inside clean but not perfect with bright torch.
Cleaned off fingerprint with Baader optical fluid.

8.5x32 version advertised as 7.8 deg 14mm eye relief, 520g. Maybe more complex eyepieces?

I suppose these binoculars are available under different names.
Made in China.

Good clear sky.
Field of view 7.75 deg not 8.2 deg.
I don't know if the focus incorrect setup has an influence here.
Magnification about 6.5x.

Larger size than Leica 8x32 BA.
Less CA centrally than 8x32 BA.
Possibly a little brighter in daylight than 8x32 BA.
I can hold the 8x32 BA just as steadily as the 6.5x Aquila despite the higher 8x magnification.

Alignment of Aquila good.
Some free play in focus, so the dioptre has to be reset if one has little accommodation.

Aquila is good for the price, but as usual for lower price Chinese offerings they cut corners and something is usually amiss.
If one chooses a good one it should be a nice binocular, although I suspect in hard use it might wear out fairly quickly, but I don't know this from short use.

P.S.
Ghosting. flare, glare. At night near streetlamp.
5.5/10 Poor.
An annoying in focus image of streetlight, possibly only in one barrel.
Flare pillars also,
There is little baffling so not surprising.

During the day I have not noticed any problems yet.

IPD.
49.5mm to 71.5mm.

Centrally star images are good.
Near the edge the star images are reasonably good, but the AFOV is moderate.

Aquila is an eagle. It is not that good.

The Aquila MS 6.5x32 has minimal or no noticeable angular magnification distortion looking at the full moon.
The moon looks the same, just as circular, at the edges of the field as at the centre.
The field is not wide.
The moon's limb shows false colour right up against the field stop.
The detail on the moon is good and colour neutral.
