Heard this on two separate days, and recorded it the second time. Although it is very loud and really distinctive, I'm completely stumped, and assume it is a bird and not, e.g., a squirrel.

Habitat is a remnant of coastal forest holding a good diversity of species. Call appeared to come from a height of around 5m, but after a total of an hour of searching I could not find what was making it.

Hi Graham, I think it probably is a squirrel. I've been stumped by them a few times making loud, slightly squeaky calls and I think that's what you've got here. At any rate can't immediately match it to any bird call I'm familiar with from Gambia.

Junkung where are you? What do you think about this one?

Thanks Kev and Mark. I PM'd JJ as well, and credit to Dawda Barry who suggested a squirrel from my own impression of it before I made the recording. There are Gambian Sun Squirrels in the forest.
