My american friend saw this Woody in his backyard. In his opinion the bird was about 25 cm long. Please help him to ID the species (sorry for the qualiy of this pic - it is the only one). Maybe a Hairy?

Looks like an immature Yellow-bellied Sapsucker. Notice the white vertical stripe on the wings.
