Duck Soup (1 Viewer)

Steve G

RAINBIRDER
Hi all, it's dour, dreich and windy here in God's chosen land (probably also raining in England). As a winter warmer you are all cordially invited to to a helping of Duck soup. Hopefully naming these birds won't drive you quackers. All were pictured locally in Fife in the last 6 months.............. ;)

Pintail (f)
Eider (m)
Long-tailed Duck (f)

2nd group likewise

Goldeneye (m?)
Erm.. Teal? (f)
Shoveler (f?)

Quickly - supposed to be getting ready to go out ;)

1st Group Clockwise

Shoveller
Eider
Goldeneye

2nd group clockwise

Mallard
Gadwall
Shoveller

3rd Group Clockwise

Wigeon
Garganey
Shoveller

4th Pair left to Right

Pintail

Ist group. The dabbler looks fat low in the water and rusty so I guess Shoveler. The one part underwater looks like a Long Tailed Duck and the other looks like a Goldeneye. I hate Ducks!

Oh... there's more...

3rd Group

Velvet Scoter
Garganey
Mallard

all female

4th Group

Wigeon (?)
Pintail (f)

Of course... me being me... any I've said are female, could be eclipse males... I as rubbish at non-breeding plumage ducks as everything else!

Not sure if I have the advantage, what with these all being 'local'. Anyway:

Set 1 (clockwise from top left):
1) Shoveler
2) Long-tailed Duck
3) Goldeneye

Set 2 (ditto):
1) Velvet Scoter
2) Mallard
3) Shoveler

Set 3 (ditto):
1) Wigeon
2) Garganey
3) Shoveler (again)

Set 4 (left to right):
1) Common Scoter
2) Pintail
