Seen a bird not native to my area (New York) (1 Viewer)

I live in california, (I think this bird is an escaped exotic bird) and I seen a bird that in size and length of neck resembled that of a goose or swan, however its feathers were brown and black, like that of duck, and had red colored eyes.

I spotted it along a walk not far from a very large body of water, when I seen something red, and to my surprise it was the bird Ive described, If you know anything about a bird like this please help me figure it out, because every time I look it up, i can't find anything on it. It would be a fun story to mention however without knowing the name of the bird it makes it hard to believe.
