Hi,

I'm an avid hiker from Malaysia. It's rare to come across birds in the jungle when you're trekking and making loud noises (particularly because you're not even looking for them in the first place). Which was why it was a pleasant surprise for me to find a large one in a clearing somewhere in the jungles of Perak and Kelantan. I thought it was a raptor of some sort initially, but upon closer inspection, its beaks aren't curved enough, unlike an eagle's. It has a crest and the shape of its beak is more similar to a hoopoe. The bird appeared to be injured (no sign of tail feathers), and was in a defensive stance:

All the best in identifying!

Zul

Damn facebook - can't see the pics unless you sell your soul ;)

Go on - sell it! They're great pictures. REALLY.

Actually, I resisted FB for years but for someone like me who doesn't really like talking to people but likes to be informed about what's going on, it's good. I use a false name to avoid my kids finding me (I'm a teacher not an absconded father) and have my privacy settings close to maximum. Not had any problems at all... and can get to see these great pics.

Gandytron, you are spot on! Amazing skill! Thanks a lot =D

Now my mind can rest in peace (it's been bugging me since I took those pictures). Oooh, the agony of not knowing... >_<
