Seems the survey is a bit fixed to me - who chose the pairs? Gee, don't South American destinations figure a lot! Almost impossible for Peru and neighbours not to come top!

I was only surprised that Central Peru and Amazonian Peru didn't feature more more prominently! ;)

Jos, this is how the selection process was done to get to the second round:

1. We first listed over 100 destinations on Birdingblogs Facebook page. and people could mark there top 10 ones. https://www.facebook.com/questions/450039028379043/
2. We seeded the top 25 on basis of number of votes and added 7 destinations from suggestions that we received too late to be included (there was a roof of 100 destinations).
They were all seeded into 16 matches in the first round. http://birdingblogs.com/2013/Gunnar/world-bird-cup-2013
How the votes played can also be seen in that same blog post. We now had 16 destinations which qualified to the second round.

I have enclosed a screenshot as an attachment of the statistics from the first round, showing that the majority of the votes were from the US and the UK. Additionally, the Peru and Ecuador games were pretty clear favorites regardless. I can assure you that the second round is far tighter for many of the South American teams.
I am not doing particular promotion in Peru and Ecuador for this round as it would scew the results.

Hope this helps..

The more people who vote the fairer the game. Every voter has to vote in each game.

Saludos

Gunnar

Alan,

Central Peru didn't make it to the first round. Amazonian Peru is somewhat included in SE Peru, but of course the Iquitos area is not mentioned.. and did not even get a nomination.
