Cormorant for ageing (1 Viewer)

Could someone confirm the age of this sinensis Cormorant please? I aged it in the field as 1st summer, but would like others' opinions. The bird was present at Thornwick Pool, Flamborough, on 24th & 25th June, but I found it dead today. The primaries (especially outer ones), secondaries and rectrices look very worn, and surely the crown, hind-neck & upperparts would be browner if it were a juvenile. The humerals and their largest coverts (I was surprised how small these feathers are) appear new; second generation?

Thanks in advance.

Brett

Hi Brett

I would go along with first-summer for the same reasons. The juvs at Rutland Water are all dull dark chocolatey brown on the upperparts at the moment.

Thanks Steve

Do you agree that I have interpreted the humerals and scapulars correctly?
