We just observed a pair of Blue Birds checking out a bird house that had previously housed a Titmouse nest. I had not cleaned out the bird house since the Titmice left maybe about 2 weeks ago. The question is: should I clean out the bird house during the day to help them out?
Here are some supporting details:
1) The Titmouse nest was very active and we went away on a short vacation just when the Titmice were supposed to fledge. That was a few weeks ago.
2) We just saw this activity in the pre-dusk: first female Blue Bird (BB) goes to look into the old Titmouse bird house nest, then male BB does same, then female BB, etc. Then we saw a Titmouse arrive on the same oak trunk with some food in beak. Could a new Titmouse family have moved in?
3) We had another BB pair that had built a nest in a bird house about 20 yards away. Then they were feeding the little ones. Then all activity seemed to cease about 2 days ago. The timing was too early for fledging. So this could be the same BB pair starting over, or maybe just a different pair?
