Kent Birder
Had a great day out today with 6 year ticks. Headed to Sheppey where the Rough-legged buzzard showed quite well, sat on a pile of manure, also here were a few Stonechat and Mipit, a few White-fronted geese and the Marsh harriers.
We headed to the Elmley track where there were 3 Little egret, Redshank, Curlew, Marsh harrier, Stonechat and c300 Wigeon flew up.
On to Oare where the highlights were 3 Red-breasted mergansers, including 2 drakes and a Rock pipit called. Also 1 ringtail Hen harrier, c20 Reed bunting, 1 Common buzzard, c60 Avocet, 2 Bar-wit and just 1(?!) Brent goose.
Onto Foreness Point, Margate where there were 2 Little gulls at sea, 10 Fulmars round the cliffs and a total of 24 Purple sandpipers were roosting.
Onto Pedwell Bay where the waders were just spectacular and numbers just couldnt be counted! The highlight was a Woodcock that flew over the carpark at 1700 hours and gave great views for a few seconds.
I ended the day on 142 for the year and 192 for my Kent list, the Woodcock was a kent tick.
