Osprey ring

This Osprey was photographed in north Devon last week. It is apparently an English or Welsh-ringed bird (identifiable by blue ring on right leg). Can anyone get close to the number? My best guess is 84 or perhaps 86. It is apparently 2 numbers read from bottom to top. Any help appreciated, would be interesting to know where it came from.

Easiest is to perhaps email Roy Dennis and ask him if he knows of ring numbers blue 84 and 86. He can be contacted via his website as I'm sure you know. J

Hi Jon,

I ringed blue 84 and blue 86 (different nests) this year in Aberdeenshire. I don't really know how to use the forum stuff but if you email me at: ewan_weston at hotmail.com then I can look out the details. Any pictures would be greatly appreciated!

Bugger! Just checked our pics and they are on the left leg. Rediculously confusing to have people ringing 2 blue 84's in the same year with the only difference being the leg the ring is on...... Oh well did get me excited for a while!

Hi Ewan,

Thanks for responding, I've been in touch with Roy. One of his satellite-tagged birds (Fearna) is (or was!) in North Devon, at the same time as the subject bird - and at least 1 other (unringed) bird too!. This is the best guess at it's ring number, I was hoping some sharp-eyed BF member might do better, but I think the pic needs more definition, I'll try to get the photographer to email me an uncropped version.....
