Hi All,

A single Red knot with a Yellow Flag with letters "WTL" on the right tibia was observed on 21st August at Dongtai, Jiangsu province of China. Does anyone have information on this bird? I have already reported this on Australian wader studies group's site but haven't heard back from them yet.

The single yellow flag indicates that the bird was flagged in Western Australia, probably at Broome or at Eighty Mile Beach. The letters will allow for individual recognition and you will need a response from the AWSG to find out more details.

Thanks Jon. Heard back from AWSG. Apparently, its not an Australian bird as they do not have this bird with letters "WTL" in their database, so it could be a HK/China bird which could have lost one flag.
May be one of your bird which has lost its flag?

No, not a Hong Kong bird. We have never flagged Red Knot with engraved flags, and only use letter-number combination on our flags.
Could it have been a stained white flag rather than yellow?

Yellow flag for sure. Unforunately, no clear photos of the engraving or the flag. Attached a poor photo, where you can see a dot of yellow on the right tibia.
