Majorca/Algarve Butterflies (1 Viewer)

Hello,

I was planning on going on holidays to Algarve, Portugal or Majorca at the end of July/start of August. I was wondering are there many butterflies there at that time of year? In particular near the sea side?

Thanks

Hi
As far as Majorca is concerned, it has a rather poor butterfly fauna (c. 32 species) although some are of interest to anyone visiting from here (e.g. Swallowtail, Cleopatra, Two-tailed Pasha, etc.). Portugal, being part of the 'mainland' has a larger and more varied fauna. The Algarve has slightly more than half of the 130 species that occur in Portugal - more than double the number of species that occur in the Balearic Islands.
