Galapagos ID questions - March '17

Our guide seemed to be saying that most Finches were Medium Ground Finches but the beaks don't look like those in the pictures I've found.

I guess No3 is a female of whichever species, and maybe No5 is a galapagos Flycatcher?

TIA

Andy

Many thanks.

A few more, mainly taken on Isabela Island in case that helps. Could the second one be a (Lava?) Heron?

I fear there will be more to come!

TIA

First set I agree on No 1, 4, 5. I feel #2 and #3 most likely are medium GF. On some of the larger islands they have two populations of medium GF, with different size of bill. I feel #2 is sufficiently tall at the base of the bill to be a medium.

I am without my books, but #1 seems like a Galapagos Shearwater of the dark-winged variant (http://www.birdforum.net/gallery/sho...p?photo=540661). Agree on #2. #3, 4, 5 I tend to think Medium, but especially for the first two I would be more confident with a side view of the bill - even a slightly unsharp one.

Hi Niels,

Does this shot help? I think (but can't be 100% sure) that it's the same bird.
