A couple of good mapping software packages (Mobac and GPSBabel) (1 Viewer)

Stumbled across a couple of good map related software packages this weekend, both free..

Mobile Atlas creator (Mobac) http://mobac.sourceforge.net/

Is good for creating offline maps to store and use on mobile devices.. Works for downloading to quite a few mapping software packages e.g. maverick, and also some handheld GPSs. (I have just created a few maps for a forthcoming holiday in Portugal that are now on my Garmin)
The "OpenStreetMap 4UMaps.eu" had a good level of detail with roads, footpaths and contour lines for EU regions.

And GPSBabel is good for converting your waypoints to different formats which is proving useful in consolidating my waypoints between Garmin and Google maps. (http://www.gpsbabel.org/ )

Both took a few trial runs to get the hang of, but worth it for me.

Best Wishes,
Peter
