Hi,

I took this one today in Northern Virginia. First instinct is a Pine Warbler. Am I wrong?

Thanks in advance,
Howard

Thanks. There are certainly a lot of Yellow-rumped Warblers in the area, but somehow I thought this one looked different. Maybe it's the lighting (near sunset), its belly and throat looked more yellow than usual to me ...

Certainly a Yellow-rumped Warbler. My first thought was also that it might have "Audobon's" genes in it, unless the throat color is a photo artifact.

That supercillium strikes me as Myrtley more so than Audubon's, but certainly a Yellow-rump.

Myrtle is my impression, but they do hybridize very widely. At least, that's what the number of hybrid birds in the west tells me.
