I am currently putting together plans for a bird/wildlife photography trip (Sept) to Massachusetts / New England area and have set aside a week on Cape Cod with another 2/3 days in Plymouth.
This however leaves the option of another 2/3 days to spend elsewhere but at the moment I am undecided on where else might be a good choice to stay.
My main interest is wildlife photography as opposed to seeing lots of species so anywhere that lends itself to this is of greater interest.
I don't want to be more than maybe 3 hours or so from Boston if possible and have already planned several Whale watching trips into the trip.
Any suggestions for another 2/3 nights based elsewhere that I should consider very much appreciated.

Thanks

Hello again,

The top birding area in eastern Mass. is Plum Island/Parker River Natl. Wildlife Refuge, which is about an hour north of Boston. Quite popular with photographers as well. So perhaps somewhere near there, e.g. Newburyport, would work for your purposes. Gloucester would be another option: farther from Plum Island, but is quite scenic and probably offers better accommodations.

Many thanks Jim, just had a quick look and Newburyport /Gloucester visiting Plum Island etc looks exactly what we are looking for.
Our two week itinerary now includes Plymouth, Cape Cod and Newburyport or Gloucester which we now look forward too , now just to book it !
Many thanks for your help and advice - much appreciated.
