My first hummingbird !! (1 Viewer)

I saw my first ever hummingbird in 2012 in Nova Scotia, Canada. It was a Ruby-throated Hummingbird. They are very common in the area in summer, however as an Australian (where there are no hummingbirds) it was such an amazing experience. I was completely hypnotised by them.

I saw my first one, in the wild, in 2012 also. Being British, we don't get them there either except in zoos or specialist bird gardens. I live in North Carolina now and enjoyed them coming to my feeder. I didn't expect that they went so far north as Nova Scotia though.

In the Carolinas, we regularly get vagrant hummers in winter. Now that you are here, you can join some of the local listservs and be alerted to vagrant sightings. Our local Audubon had a trip down to Pawley's Island SC and observed a Buff Bellied Hummer back in January.

I have tried to get in touch with a local Wayne County Audubon Society
serving the Goldsboro, NC area without success. I actually don't know where else to look.
