Encountered this group (c15) at Holkham Marsh, North Norfolk last week. Some of the birds had a ''Rose'' flush to the breast, neck sides etc. even those birds without the ''flush'' had the same, almost suffused dirty buff grounding to their under-parts, invariably (light dependant) showing a distinct or less than..supercillium.
The napes and mantle often showing an indistinct grey wash, having seen the Titchwell Water Pipit the previous day much more contrasty and cleaner (first image), I deduced that these birds were indeed littoralis, however one bird took flight and appeared to show a grey/white edge to the OTM's...I have to presume that the ''variability'' on the margins is just that...mmm interesting?
Cheers
