Is this a Blackbird? Black feathers with yellow beak (1 Viewer)

I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to birds - I can just about tell the difference between a Robin and a Blue Tit.

This bird was perched on a tree branch outside my window in London SE20 (United Kingdom) this morning, and to me it looks like a Blackbird, but I'd like to know for sure.

I'd also like to know how old you think it is, because to me it seemed to have an air of youth about it. It was singing in between preening, and once rubbed its neck on the branch it was perched on. It stretched its wings a couple of times before it flew away.

Blackbird - definately
Male, not a young bird as in juvenile - this is an adult, singing loads just simply its that time of year when territory the be all and end all.

Preening - so all that singing means something when a female comes along.

Hope this helps

Did it have a bright cheery song? I think I observed the same species in my back yard, had some things on my mind, kind of down. This bird lands in a pecan tree and starts singing. Before I knew it, I was smiling. Beautiful song.

The song of Eurasian Blackbird is beautiful, take a listen on the Opus page (the name is linked).

Having said that, I doubt that would be your bird, they should really not be on your side of the Atlantic.

Finally, welcome to birdforum!

Nice photo's of a male Blackbird, singing to attract a mate, and to tell other Blackie's, this is my territory!! He's an adult in fine summer plumage.
