To coincide with our tenth birthday, we have got together with Avian Adventures to offer BirdForum members a discounted trip to Lesvos between Saturday 21st and Saturday 28th April 2012.
For Spring birdwatching in delightful surroundings, Lesvos is difficult to beat. Beautiful valleys, flowering meadows, forested hillsides and rivers and wetlands are home to a sparkling selection of bird species – many of which are migrants but some are scarce and much sought after breeding species.
Little Bittern, Little Crake, Kruper’s & Western Rock Nuthatches, Olivaceous & Ruppell’s Warblers, Rufous-tailed Scrub-Robin, Sombre Tit and Cinereous Bunting are just a handful of the species we expect to see. A birding holiday on the lovely island of Lesvos will leave one with a wonderful and lasting memory.
Itinerary
Day 1: Direct morning flight from UK to Lesvos, then transfer to our hotel at Skala Kalloni (7 Nights). After Lunch there will be time for birding near the hotel.
Days 2-7: During this period we will explore many of Lesvos’s prime birdwatching sites, which should reveal the Island’s wealth of birdlife. Generally we will drive (by minibus) to the birdwatching locations, walking only short distances. On one or two occasions we may walk to sites near to the hotel.
Day 8: After a little morning’s birding, we will drive to the airport to catch our return flight to UK.
Details
Flights are direct from Gatwick with Thomas Cook (It is possible that a flight from Manchester may also be operated) and the hotel for the trip is Hotel Pasiphae.
The tour is fully inclusive, and members will be escorted throughout, including Meet & Greet at the Airport check-in; transfers to and from the holiday hotel; all field excursions; all meals (lunches will mainly be picnic style but at least one will be at a taverna). Evening Meals will be at the hotel but also with one at a taverna.
The price in the 2012 brochure for the same trip is £1,430. We are able to offer the same trip, but a week earlier, for the discounted price of £1,330, saving £100.
If you are interested in taking advantage of this fantastic deal, phone Avian Adventures on 01384 372013 or email [email protected] and let them know that you are a BirdForum member and have seen this offer.
Please note that there are only 14 places available, which will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis and this announcement will be in our Autumn newsletter sent out at the end of this month.
Thanks, and good birding.

- Birding tours to Lesvos are generally classed as reasonably easy paced, with no long hikes.
- Typical length of a birding day is: Breakfast around 7:30am and then departing the hotel by 8:15 - 8:30am to visit birding sites. We aim to arrive back at hotel (around 6:00pm) in plenty of time to shower and change before dinner.
- There should be some good photographic opportunities/situations, however, one should be aware that the tour is not a photographic tour.
- Avian Adventures provide each participant with a bound tour information pack and bird species tick list at least four weeks before departure.
- Following the tour each couple or single participant will receive a bound tour report.
