Spent last Friday at a quarry to the south east of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia studying activity budgets of Little Grebes in the lake. Scan after Scan to try to get a valid set of samples can sometimes blind you to the wonders you are actually looking at.

My scope landed on this tiny thing sitting atop a floating mess of bits and pieces when I noticed a Little Grebe come over to it, then another. The tiny tot, stood up and hesitantly plopped into the water swimming a little away from the nest with what honestly looked like adoring adults hovering around. After a short trip, little one was positioned neatly on top of Mr or Mrs and deposited back in the nest. I suppose you had to be there but things like that just give you that Aww Shuks feeling :).
