Hi All I was walking down the Water of Leith in Edinburgh yesterday when I saw this oddly marked gull. Now I'm quite new to this so please excuse if this is something common.

It's an adult Black-headed gull in winter plumage.
Quite a lot of field guides, especially the older ones tend to only show adults in breeding plumage, and for a lot of birds, gulls especially, that only covers part of the story.
