Serengeti bats (1 Viewer)

Hi all,

Can anyone help with the identification of these two bat species from Serengeti, Tanzania? Both were roosting in toilet blocks.

Cheers

Richard

Hello Richard,

The group of bats are from the Molossidae family and could possibly be Mops condylurus.

The single bat is from the Rhinolophidae family which have several similiar looking species, possibly Rhinolophus darlingi or deckenii but they are a difficult bunch if you have any more photos either of the noseleaf or a side view then it might help and I can check through my books.

Sorry not to be more definite but I've not travelled to that part of the world yet so I'm not 100% on my species ID.

Cool bats though!
Cheers,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Many thanks for replying and apologies for my delay - I don't visit the site too regularly!
I have attached a couple more shots. Many thanks!
