Scaup and Gull, St. John's, NL, Canada (1 Viewer)

I think this scaup was a Lesser based on the head shape and relatively small size. One thing I'm not sure is the color. I reaad about Greater Scaup has green head while Lesser has purple. The head of this one looked green in field.
Sorry for the poor quality of the gull pic. The mantle is the same gray color as Yellow-legged Gull, which is perfect for Lesser Black-backed and Herring hybrid. The streaky head says that, too. The legs, however, were yellow, not pink.
Thank you for your help! :t:

The color of a scaup's head is not a reliable field mark. It can be green or purple on either species depending on the angle of the sun.

The duck in the foreground is a Lesser Scaup, the one behind it is a Greater Scaup. The gull looks like a Lesser Black-backed Gull or hybrid with Herring Gull.

Thanks! I went back there today and saw the same scaup. I'm now pretty sure it's a Lesser :)
