What an amazing, brilliant, and utterly COOL list, Cindy!!!

And to think, that only a decade ago, there would have been only a dozen or so of these festivals in existence!

I've only been to one of them, the Wings over [my beloved] Muscatatuck. It's on International Migratory Bird Day, May 10, and while small, is lots of fun, and an opportunity (one of only two a year) for the general public to enter the closed waterfowl resting areas, on foot. As this year's eaglets have already hatched (on Good Friday), those walking back into that part of the refuge would be able to see, at a distance, the spectacular nest with babies!!

And the May Day counts, at least in Indiana, will be done throughout the first three weeks in May as well.

Ain't spring GRAND!!!

so true.. there's so much going on bird-wise around the country all at one time, makes you wish you could be in three places at once- I recall you writing about Muscatatuck before, it sounds like a wonderful place to enjoy birds. I'll be attending the Kirtlands Warbler festival May 15, held in a neighboring county- a weekend full of warbler tours, speakers, exhibitions and just great fun. I've met alot of authors, artists, etc at these sort of festivals and we always have a super time & come away with new friends we meet along the trails. I just noticed the Kirtlands festival isn't on this list- I guess I'd better write the webmaster :)
I'll be working on a count on International Migratory Bird Day for the N.A. breeding bird atlas- our migrants really pick up around the second, third week of May- GRAND describes May quite well I think!

Thanks for posting a great list Cindy. Like Beverly said it is amazing how many festivals are available to enjoy now. Like you I wish I could be in so many places at once. I don't think I'll even be able to attend even one though. I'll have my own festival as I travel over 600 km (360 mi.) tomorrow to attend meetings and visit family. I should be able to get a good list that covers alot of this province to submit to the global bird count.
