Caddis-Fly Identification - This Weekend (1 Viewer)

Is the attached caddis-fly identifiable? It came to an actinic light in Clevedon, North Somerset at the weekend. The forewing length was 23mm. It had an obvious pale stripe along the top. The wings appeared relatively uniform save for the darker mark at 3/4s and the accompanying veins.

If not identifiable, what features should be checked to help the identification.

All the best

Paul

While some species have relatively distinctive patterns, and can often be identified with accuracy from this alone if you know them well, this one is in a group with many similar species and the degree of variability is such that i would not consider it identifiable without examining wing venation (both wings) and genitalia.

Ficedula

Noted. Does it need wing venations and genitalia or are some of the group identifiable by wing venations alone? Presumably the wing venations are identifiable by hand lens and/or decent photos?

What are the potential species names of the group?

Very many thanks

Paul
