January 1st joint BF effort? (1 Viewer)

Black-cap and greenfinch take the UK total to 45. Meanwhile the top species count on Birdtrack is 69, just by one person. Let's hope he's a BF member...

My trip to the shops produced my 29th species for the day, so that's the end of my contribution to the list. Here's hoping for better weather tomorrow.

You can add Herring Gull to your list. I've not been out, but just after 15 minutes looking out the window, I've got 9 species so far.

I managed a total of 36 from a quick look around Glasgow/Ayrshire. To Swindon Addick's list I can offer: Goldfinch, Buzzard, Kestrel, Curlew, Oystercatcher, Linnet, Common Gull, Snipe, Pied Wagtail, Turnstone, Shag, Skylark, Common Goldeneye, Coal Tit, Sparrowhawk, Mistle Thrush and Yellowhammer. Nothing startling, but the Yellowhammers brightened up a rainy day!

Glossy Ibis, Rock Dove, Hooded Crow, Barnacle Goose, Greylag Goose, G N Diver, Slavonian Grebe,Merlin, Hen Harier, L T Duck and Twite are a few contributions from the Far North.

I've been for a short walk and added Common Chaffinch, Grey Heron, Long tailed Tit and Fieldfare to my miserable list. The weather is beautiful here with clear blue skies and 8°C. I can't get out to my local lake till tomorrow, it takes too long and it will be dark before I could walk around it so I will be doing that tomorrow if the weather holds.

Just got back meself. Bit knackered as I was walking the last 3 hours and forgot to take any food with me. Managed to get a few more for my lists (year, patch, patchwork, footit, this one, it's going to be a nightmare working out what goes on which ones!).

Think I'll start up a combined list in the lists section for the total list first though.

Not gone through my stuff exhaustively for commoner species for the combined uk list, but did manage to connect with Scaup and Bittern earlier in the day, then Black-necked Grebe, Common Scoter, Chiffcahff and Common Sandpiper. Dipped Dipper unfortunately at a known site but the stream was pretty swollen.

Greenshank, later Razorbill and probably finally, the Grey Phalarope that's been around a week or so.

A truly ghastly drive to Heathrow and on to Hampshire resulted in a year list so far of 22, does this make it the worst year start on record? Most of those were seen on a brief look at Wraysbury gravel pits, where no Parakeets were in evidence. Too wet and windy. It's a long way to go to reach 1,000 for the year if it goes on like this. Farlington tomorrow should help, I hope. Happy New Year to all. Don't think I've got anything to add Dan.

A brief dry spell on an awful day in Cardiff saw two additions from the Bay wetlands - drake lesser scaup still present and Cetti's warbler in the reeds.

I had a nice male Smew on Swithland reservoir as one of the highlights of a very wet day around Charnwood. Nobody has mentioned it yet. A Shag was a good bird for there but has been seen elsewhere obviously.

Happy New Year to everyone.
