January 1st joint BF effort? (1 Viewer)

I can add to AlexC's list above:
Golden-crowned Kinglet
Harris's Sparrow
Northern Harrier
Pileated Woodpecker
Red-headed Woodpecker
Snow Goose
Trumpeter Swan

borealowl47 (Canada) posted initially.

We also have Team Oceania on board (ok a bit limited so far), they could conceivably come from nowhere or thereabouts. However, Team Antarctica are probably unlikely to trouble the ratings when all is done ...

Right but no species have come in from Canada yet (borealowl47 didn't post January 1st totals)

Larry was missing American Kestrel but it was on the list previously. Also had Northern Mockingbird in there twice (which snuck into Jos's list as well), so actually North America is at 184 now. This is all January 1st only, right guys?

Never heard of "Grey" Catbird or "Tricoloured" Heron before, Jos! hahaha - this is the North American list!

I do not know how I managed to miss 20+ North American (USA) birds on my tally above. I thought I had gleaned all of them from going through this thread, but apparently I did miss some. (And I did only take North American birds.)

I saw Parrot Crossbills at Budby Common, Notts on the 1st. Are they needed?

They are indeed. Or rather they were, until you posted. UK total now 147, as long as I haven't double-counted anything.

You didn't happen to see any common crossbills at the same time did you? We don't have them as yet.

Here's the updated UK list, which my spreadsheet says is 147. If anyone notices any omissions, or any species included twice under different names, please shout.

You didn't miss 20, don't worry! Jos added his bunch after your list - which tacked the extra ones on there.

Jacana (post#96) had Crossbill, 2 barred Crossbill and Raven.

(The discrepancy in our two lists may be something to do with the fact that I made CWGriswold's additions to be 11 rather than 12, but I haven't gone back to check out what the difference might be!)

Cheers.

I think it's just a gray/grey area ... ;) (There are also a number of US birders who see Gray Herons when they're over here. Langwich ...)

Not a bad total!
