Lonely Duckling (1 Viewer)

I am new here and I hope that I'm posting in the right place. I have a small lake in the back yard. Some kids found 2 baby ducks and caught one and don't know where the other went. I got the baby duck from them and put it on the ground to make sure it was ok, then it ran off into the water. Now it swims around and around the lake screaming for its mother. Will the mother ever come to him? It was not a small baby, about 8 or 9 in. long. Is it old enough to survive on its own? Can someone tell me what happens in cases like this. I am so sad for this little guy. I looked for the sibling, but could not find it. Please help!!

Welcome to BF Vicki,
If this Duckling is left alone, everything will be fine. Its parents will stay away if they see somebody about. Keep an eye on it, but from a distance.
Good luck.
