Large Brown Bird (1 Viewer)

Hello all,
I'm new to your forum. We just did a safari and took a pic of a large bird near the water. Does anyone know what it is?
Thanks for your help

Yup! I just saw an image of this bird last week. Sort of sticks to its name ;)

Hi there and a warm welcome to you from those of us on staff here at BirdForum :t: Enjoy!

Hi Canuck in Africa and a warm welcome from me too.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I hope to hear about all the birds you see when out and about.

I'd love to see one of those guys.

Agree, the very distinctive Hammerkop! One of the few life birds I have ever managed to pick out based on a fly-over sighting alone...

Cheers,
Peter C.

Hi Canuck in Africa and welcome to Birdforum. Your bird is a Hammerkop: see here. :t:
Thanks RaphaelMatias,
You know your birds. It is one of the more unique birds I've seen. Another fascinating bird we saw was the Cori Bustard. I assumed that because it is so large it can't fly but I was amazed to find out that it can.
Keep on birding!!!
