Hi folks, I am planning a trip to look for reddish scops and Oriental bay owl in peninsular Malaysia. Any advice on sites, time of year etc would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Iain

You should get both at Taman Negara, either at the usual touristy entrance of Kuala Tahan or the more secluded entrance of Merapoh. They are resident year-round but are by no means guaranteed to be seen.

I heard Bay owl this April just above Kuala Tahan, I was standing here 4°22'46.95" N 102°24'33.64" E and it was calling from the wooded slope SE from there. Unfortunately it was impossible to get there.
Surprisingly I couldn´t hear in Taman Negara Reddish scops (owls were this time generally fairly silent), but 2 years ago, during July 2012 I could, just around Mutiara resort.
