I went birding today and saw tons of new birds (to me at least). It was good day. Anyhow, I have lots of questions about identification of these birds, but I'm going to be doing two posts because there are too many photos. These are the ones that I think I know what they are. There were all taken in the Merced area in central California.

1. loggerhead shrike
2. snow geese - according to my book, snow geese may have rusty patches on the face. Some of these do. There are also blue morphs in there somewhere. I just want to make sure they aren't Ross's geese. Although, maybe some of them are Ross's
3. Cooper's hawk - this one was kind enough to stay put for quite some time. I was able to get a lot of photos.

Thanks in advance!

You are correct on photos 1 and 2. Photo3 looks mostly like Snow Geese to me, their might be Ross's in the photo also though.

Thanks everyone!

I'm quite pleased with my sightings from today. Quite a few lifers.

That's one seriously fabulous flock of Ross's Geese!|8.| You are very lucky indeed.
I don't see any "for sure" Snows in that flock, although I think the very stained one on the right may be one, just going by size (the bill is obscured by the wing of a flying bird).
