Hello All,

I am in need of your help once again. I recently moved to a heavily wooded area of St. Louis, MO.

On my deck yesterday a tanager sized bird was eating ants going to my hummingbird feeder, and it was a yellow color with an auburn tint. It didn't have the dark wing pattern like a female scarlet tanager, so I am left wondering.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Wooded area, eating ants, tanager sized, ....

sounds like a Northern Flicker (yellow-shafted), possibly a female of the species.

What about a Brown Thrasher!

Thanks for the suggestion. I thought of that, but it didn't have the markings. It was definitely a unique bird. Maybe it was a juvenile, and I just didn't recognize it.

Thanks again for your help,
Jeremy
