Giottos GTMH1311-652 Ball and Socket Head with Friction Control (1 Viewer)

what does anyone think of the Giottos GTMH1311-652 Ball and Socket Head with Friction Control ?

If you are thinking of using this with a scope it's not an ideal solution.

Ballheads generally enable you to save a little weight compared to 2-way video heads of equivalent stability but the lateral tilt can be a PITA. In addition, you are going to have to use the "vertical format slot" if you ever want a vertical tilt of more than about 30°.

Just want a decent tripod for birding wildlife and occasional macro shot but for a reasonable price that will take a canon camera fitted with a canon 300 2.8 lens which is faily heavy Up to a couple hundred quid

The lensmaster gimbal is good. It is a little heavy in my view but a heavy camera and lens on a ball head needs care. I have the Giottos ball head and use a scope or camera & small lens on it. I use the lensmaster for 120-300 zoom and 500mm lens. I believe there is a sidekick version now that may be lighter.
