A good field guide would serve you better than looking at pictures on line. That way you'll be able to focus on the species found in your area and easily compare them. The Sibley Guide is my favorite, but the National Geographic guide is also very good, and I'm sure others will recommend their favorites to you.

Agree with this whole-heartedly. There's still no substitute for a good paper field guide.
