A summary of this weeks sightings.........


Pools.......1 Green Sandpiper, 30+ Lapwing, 2 Shoveler, 28 Tufted Duck, 5 Mallard, 9 Teal, 7 Little Grebe, 5 Moorhen, 23 Coot, 2 Kingfisher, 21 Gadwall, 2 Grey Wagtail, and 2 Snipe.


400+ Jackdaw, 50+ Rook, 1 Rock Pipit, 2 Black Swan, 2 Great White Egret, 22 Meadow Pipit, 30+ Goldfinch, 1 Tree Pipit, 3 Cetti's Warbler, 120+ Swallow, 10+ House Martin, 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 20+ Linnet, 4 Jay, 6 Goldcrest, 1 Hobby, 1 Peregrine Falcon, 100+ Canada Goose, 30+ Stock Dove, 12 Pied Wagtail, 1 Coal Tit, 1 Wheatear, 15+ Magpie, 2 Reed Bunting, 2 Bullfinch, 2 Marsh Harrier, and also, 1 Ring Ouzel ( female ), which was noted feeding on berries, amongst other thrush's, and blackbirds.

Pools......2 Kingfisher, 63 Tufted Duck, 10 Coot, 3 Mallard, 11 Teal, 3 Canada Goose, 11 Gadwall, 12 Shoveler, 4 Little Grebe, 4 Moorhen, 1 Little Egret, 1 Grey Heron, 2 Green Sandpiper, 25+ Lapwing, and 4 Grey Wagtail.


2 Reed Warbler, c100 Pink Footed Goose, 2 Rock Pipit, 3 Cetti's Warbler, 2 Ringed Plover, 6 Great White Egret, 3 Common Sandpiper, 1 Wheatear, 3 Bullfinch, 4 Reed Bunting, 2 Chiffchaff ( singing ), 10 Stock Dove, 11 Meadow Pipit, 30+ Linnet, 22 Skylark, 20+ Long Tailed Tit, 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 1 Merlin, 2 Coal Tit, 12 Goldcrest, 2 Stonechat, and 6 Siskin.

2 Barn Owl.... ( probably the same pair as last year ).


1 Little Owl.


Pools.......( maximum counts ).........5 Little Grebe, 8 Shoveler, 21 Mallard, 1 Pintail, 50+ Lapwing, 14 Coot, 4 Moorhen, 2 Green Sandpiper, 1 Snipe, 2 Kingfisher, 1 Shelduck, 2 Canada Goose, 1 Common Sandpiper, 96 Tufted Duck, and 50+ Gadwall.


Birds recorded as 'flyovers'....or noted as passing through.......2 Merlin, 160 Pink Footed Goose, 5 Great White Egret, 4 Ruff, 21 Little Egret, 5 Raven, 2 Marsh Harrier, 1 Whimbrel, 2 Rock Pipit, 1 Lapland Bunting, 120+ Skylark, 15 Meadow Pipit, 7 Ringed Plover, 2 Black Swan, 6 Whooper Swan, 70+ Grey Plover, and 600+ Knot.


Other notable birds.........4 Cetti's Warbler, 2 Coal Tit, 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 5 Goldcrest, 25+ Goldfinch, 20+ Magpie, 2 Jay, 20+ Long Tailed Tit, 2 Bullfinch, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Peregrine Falcon, 12 Reed Bunting, 1 Stonechat,...... ( and a roaming mixed thrush flock )........that contained.......5 Mistle Thrush, 5 Redwing, 10+ Song Thrush, 10+ Blackbird, 5+ Robin, and 2 Fieldfare.

**** Help with ID please****

1 'marsh tern', was noted at distance on Shotton/Burton Marsh this morning, at circa 08.15am - 09.00am.......... and common sense tells me, that it was very probably a Black Tern,.... but.....it did appear to be showing very pale/white undersides, and was also much paler above than I would have expected from a Black Tern..........it's a bit of a long shot I know......but is there any chance of it having been a White Winged Black Tern, or is it too early/late for one of these to be passing through?.........

Pools.......( maximum counts ).......30+ Teal, 9 Lapwing, 2 Grey Heron, 17 Coot, 2 Canada Goose, 50+ Gadwall, 14 Mallard, 26 Tufted Duck, 4 Little Grebe, 2 Shoveler, 1 Snipe, 1 Common Sandpiper, and 5 Grey Wagtail.


1 Tawny Owl was heard.


Birds noted as 'flyovers' or passing through.......2 Marsh Harrier, 3 Great White Egret, 9 Little Egret, 350+ Pink Footed Goose, 2 Black Swan, 3 Siskin, 3 Rock Pipit, 1 Merlin, and 20+ Dunlin.


2 Short Eared Owl, were noted on the adjacent saltmarsh.


Other notable birds....... 1 'marsh tern' ( probable Black Tern ), 2 Raven, 7 Skylark, 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 2 Cetti's Warbler, 8 Meadow Pipit, 2 Coal Tit, 60+ Woodpigeon, 2 Reed Bunting, and 2 Bullfinch.

Pools.........( maximum counts )..........3 Green Sandpiper, 13 Mallard, 18 Teal, 2 Grey Heron, 1 Black Tailed Godwit, ( very rare on the pools here ), 1 Goosander , 1 Little Egret, 40 Tufted Duck, 7 Little Grebe, 80+ Lapwing, 6 Snipe, 2 Canada Goose, 4 Moorhen, 13 Coot, 2 Black Swan, ( a good record for the pools ), 1 Common Sandpiper, 7 Grey Wagtail, 1 Wood Sandpiper, 13 Shoveler, 56 Gadwall, 1 Water Rail, and 2 Kingfisher.


Birds recorded as 'flyovers', or noted as passing through.............30+ Little Egret, 200+ Canada Goose, 100+ Skylark, 2 Merlin, 3 Great White Egret, 150+ Chaffinch, 10 Golden Plover, 3 Spotted Redshank, 9 Greylag Goose, 8 Ruff, 100+ Pintail, 100+ Wigeon, 590 Pink Footed Goose, 8 Siskin, 20+ Mute Swan, 3 Whooper Swan, 2 Rock Pipit, and 1 Marsh Harrier.


Other notable birds......3 Cetti's Warbler, 4 Bullfinch, 8 Reed Bunting, 25+ Goldfinch, 1 Stonechat, 30+ Long Tailed Tit, 3 Coal Tit, ( becoming more frequent ), 2 Raven, 1 Fieldfare, 170+ Starling, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Peregrine Falcon, 18 Meadow Pipit, 50+ Jackdaw, 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 10+ Goldcrest, 10+ Linnet, and 6 Redwing.

2 Little Stint, were noted feeding amongst the Lapwing flock, on the 'shallow pool' at first light,.... a very good record.


1000+ Starling, were at the roost.


5 Jay, were at the Feeding Station.


The first returning Goldeneye, was noted on the 'Main Pools'.
