Scientists have discovered flame retardant chemicals in peregrine falcon eggs. The study looked at eggs that had failed to hatch in falcon nests around Spain and Canada, including the Great Lakes Region. It was discovered that the levels of chemical compounds were higher in the eggs of birds living in coastal environments.

The amount of toxic chemicals in everything from food to human breast milk is truly shocking - and its a problem thats getting worse as the above study shows. Raptors are a very usefull "Canary in the Coalmine" on so many levels eg. i saw another story on vultures in Spain who feed mainly on livestock carcasses and it was frightning the level of antibiotics in their tissues:-C

PS: Unfortuntly little or nothing will be done about this given the massive lobbying power of the chemical industry on both sides of the Atlantic:C
