It was Pascale Cordier, Trouville's deputy mayor in charge of environment, who made the claim about the babies - so blame the French press!

the British press regurgitated it and gave it credence... they also said similar [moronic] claims had been made in Britain, so - guilty as charged I'm afraid!

Tee hee! Let's face it, an awful lot of what you read in the media (and on the interweb) isn't at all reliable.
