Hello!

I am after a recommendation for a field guide for use in Sabah & Sarrawak. Is this the best one? Anything due to be published soon?

A Field Guide to the Birds of Borneo, Sumatra, Java and Bali: The Greater Sunda Islands (John Mackinnon, Karen Phillipps)

Thanks,

John

Yes, the Mackinnon & Phillipps guide is adequate for most species. Still, when I was in Borneo I was quite happy I also brought Craig Robson's Field Guide to the Birds of South-east Asia which I found helpful especially for some Babblers & female Sunbirds (but obviously, you still need the Mackinnon & Phillipps guide for the numerous species found on Borneo, but not found in the region covered by Robson's guide). The DVD-rom Birds of Tropical Asia vol. 3 by Jelle Scharringa et al. provides recording for the vast majority of Bornean birds.
