Any ideas for now and summer months for the bird feeders etc.?
I want some of the birds to carry on coming in the next few months to the feeding pole which is right by my patio. There will be plenty of birds in the garden but its great when some of them come much closer. In last few days some have stopped coming to the feeders but still getting a couple of great tits ,a blue tit ,several long tailed tits, lots house sparrows , chiff chaff , one chaffinch who stayed, the collared doves who have calmed down again now. Yesterday the hoopoe came again pecking about on grass by the feeder pole, this year is the nearest I've seen him in the garden and hope continues.
Looking out for a couple of goldfinches ,usually seen daily in garden from mid April.
CB : though Curlews are easy enough here the local Oystercatchers are much more difficult.
So it was with some delight that one or two finally called above this morning.
Regretfully H, I had to leave on Saturday!...My last morning trip round the headland produced Cuckoo, Hoopoe, Black Kite and a Juv.Pallid Harrier under sustained attack by Hooded Crow.....I think there just might be a period of ''adjustment'' ahead of me. :-C
Brenda,
I don't know about the rest of the Garden listers, but I'm still feeding the birds, though at a much reduced level, a peanut feeder still visited by 4 tit species and the sparrows, plus a few sunflower seeds on cold or rainy mornings.
A 'late night special' this evening as I was locking up:
66 Grey Heron
it drifted over the road and landed in a tree opposite, perhaps intending to do some frog and toad catching in the gathering gloom.
I also feed in the summer months at a reduced rate; only mixed seed on feeder and maybe a few scraps on the bird table. They don't need much in the summer as there are so many insects around to feed the young. I like to give the parents, particularly the House Sparrows, a helping hand.
