Not much point listing mine at this point. Maybe on the 200 mark. Most of mine are on your list but I have Great Tit and Hooded Crow! That pretty much covers my European list from the airport bus window.

Mine's clickable from my sig. 203 currently (all in Arizona for what it's worth). Only four lifers this year! (Lawrence's Goldfinch, LeConte's Thrasher, White-faced Ibis and Eurasian Collared-Dove - although I'm hesitant to call introduced birds "lifers". But waddya gunna do?) I'm hoping to get another 10-12 later this spring when we head into the Chiricahua mountains (target birds include: Sulphur-bellied Flycatcher, Mexican Chickadee, Elegant Trogon, Red-faced Warbler, Whiskered Screech-Owl and Montezuma Quail for starters)

Hoping to add one or two to that in a couple of weeks - if I get some free time. But since I'll be in New Hampshire and the summer visitors won't have got there yet, I'm not expecting too much.

I only have 2 hummers (Cinnamon and Ruby-Throated).I had to go to Mexico to get the Cinn.

Hoping for Blue-throated this spring, and Calliope this summer, with possible Violet-crowned and Lucifer's (but unlikely). Heck, some of these lister types'll spend the day lounging about the feeders at one of the bed & breakfast inns in southeast Arizona and get 12 species of hummingbirds in one sitting. :eek!: Not sure if that's the type of birding I'm into.. yet.

Good luck with your trip into the Chiricahua mountains. We visited SE Arizona last May and picked up several hummers and the Elegant Trogon. We got the Violet-crowned in Patagonia (yes, at a feeder at Mrs Patton's house).

Last weekend we picked up several new hummingbirds at a lodge we stayed at in the Paria Peninsula in NE Venezuela. They didn't have any feeders out, just lots of natural plantings. We had a Rufous-breasted Hermit that had a nest outside our window. We watched her for three days and the eggs actually hatched and we could see the babies the day we left.

My wife and went to Mexico and didn't get any! We saw so many hummers, but there were also so many in the field guide that we just couldn't ID any of the little buggers. :eek!:

While getting a little off subject for this thread, I think your comment about feeder watching and Weather's comment about the difficulty in identifying some hummers bring up a good point. Personnally, I prefer to find my own birds, BUT, I'll also spend hours watching a good feeder to learn all the little details needed to identify some of these hummers. When they are flying around in the forest you really have to know them to get an ID. My hummer list is about 55 now and I know that I have seen at least half at feeders but most again out in the wilds. Last weekend, after having seen 4 nests of Rufous-breasted Hermits right around our cottage, we also found 6 more species in the mountains / valleys. Most difficult to find was the Scissor-tailed Hummingbird that we spent 5 hours on Cerro Humo looking for (and were rewarded with only a brief flyby of a female). We did get good views of Fork-tailed Woodnymph, Brown Violet-ear, Black-throated Mango, and Green Hermit on the same outing.

I understand the rationale, Dave. Still, like you I'd hope to tick it out in the wild, and then spend some time at a feeder studying the details. But I realize that's rather idealistic and often unworkable. I'm somewhat torn between the "see it before it's gone!" and the "what's the rush?" mentalities (preferring the latter while acknowledging the former). Interesting, and angst-ridden, tightrope that naturalists walk!

Anyway, here's hoping everyone gets loads of hummers, seen any which way, on their 2005 lists!
