Trip to NW Argentina

After a trip to NW Argentina visiting places like two National Parks (Calilegua & Baritu) and one Province Park (Lagunas de Yala), I could add a few birds from the Cloud Forest and High Andes to my year list (456) and life list (791).

First we visited the Calilegua NP in the province of Jujuy for 3 days. There we found species related to Cloud Forest. After that we visited a place called Termas de Caimancito for one day. The place is a transition between Cloud Forest and Dry Chaco Forest. So we were able to see a mixture of species belonging to different habitats. Then we visited the Baritu NP in the Province of Salta for 3 days. There we found High Andes grassland and the upper level of the Cloud Forest. And the last day we visited a Provincial Park called Lagunas de Yala near de city of San Salvador de Jujuy, containing a similar habitat like Baritu.

At Costanera Sur reserve in Buenos Aires

Yesterday at our local reserve in Buenos Aires - Costanera Sur - I added one more:

456. Cinnamon Warbling Finch

A very rare bird for Buenos Aires because it should be out of the normal range. Normally it should be found in western Argentina on dry country and not in the wet Pampas.

Again at Costanera Sur Reserve

Last two weekends I've been to Costanera Sur Reserve in downtown Buenos Aires. Two incredible visits with 110+ species seen. Normally a regular visitor should see between 90 and 100 species at this time of the year. It was also two good days because I was able to add a few species to my year list:

457. Rufous-sided Crake
458. South-American Painted-Snipe
459. Striped Cuckoo
460. Black-backed Water Tyrant
461. Warbling Doradito
462. Blue-black Grassquit

Perdices (southern Entre Rios province)

On Saturday 12th of November I went to the southern part of the Province of Entre Rios, where you'll find wetlands and grasslands and the associated bird species. This places lies 120 Km north of the city of Buenos Aires and the towns in the area are Ceibas and Perdices. Nearby is a small city called Gualeguaychú. I was lucky to get near Perdices a total bird account of 113 species. Among these I added 6 new ones for my year list. These are the species:

463. Short-billed Canastero
464. Swainson's Flycatcher
465. American Cliff Swallow
466. Dark-throated Seedeater
467. Tawny-bellied Seedeater
468. Scarlet-headed Blackbird

General Villegas (NW Buenos Aires province)

On the weekend of the 19th of November I went to northwest of the Province of Buenos Aires to the town of General Villegas with it's grassland and lagoons. The town is 500 Km away of Buenos Aires city. There I was able to see 85 species of birds with two new ones for my year list. This two where:

469. Hudsonian Godwit
470. Subtropical Doradito

Punta Rasa (Buenos Aires province)

Last monday (21th Nov) I've got a tip about a Least Tern visiting the reserve of Punta Rasa. The whole day a was able to see 95 species including the Least Tern plus thirteen other new species for my year list. I'm really happy that I was able to see this Tern because it was a lifer for me.
