Hi, can anyone ID this hummingbird for me? I LOVE birds, but am admittedly not a birder (sorry to intrude!!). I am interested in this hummingbird for a painting and would like to learn more.
Thanks Andrew. I don't know. It's not my picture, so that's why I was trying to find out what is was so I could find more similar. I'm so much of a newbie that I had no idea it was a ruby-throated humminbird. We only have a ballion of them here in Indiana lol.
This is digital art rather than a straight-up photo, but I agree with Jan that the subject appears to be a male Ruby-throated with some, *ahem*, imaginative embellishments.
I hate to be a curmudgeon, but I think this photo was doctored/enhanced. As stonechat1 says, I don't find anything similar in any of my Central/South American guidebooks, and in any case, it doesn't look anything like any hummer I've ever seen in photos or live ... believe me, my books are very well thumbed-through in the hummer sections! The colors don't really fit for me. The photo was taken with a flash, so that could throw the colors off somewhat. If I'm right, it's too bad, because hummers are superb without modification.
