Hummingbird with speckles...in NE Ohio (1 Viewer)

I had to tak a second glance...as it perched to drink from my feeder. Never seen one marked like that...

Reminded me a bit of the female red breasted...top coloring sort of...under belly and up toward chest...speckled a dark color. Nothing in my Sibley for Eastrn North America birds...guess I'll hit google images. Just was taken back...had it been spring I would have thought...juvenile maybe molting. (Really know nothing of hummingbirds for the most part)

Sounds like maybe a Juvenile Ruby-throated. Ohio, in addition to Ruby-throated hummingbirds, has Rufus, which shows often enough, and Calliope hummingbirds as casually occurring. Speckles you describe sounds typical for a young Ruby-throated.

Thanks...that is what I thought at first...but...it being August. I assumed it was to late for that.
