Hi - Going to Croatia (Dubrovnik) for 10 days or so at the end of July this year.

Any information on birding there would be very much appreciated - even a Croatian birding contact who might like to swap local knowledge for food and or beer ;)

Looking forward to those birds of prey and woodpeckers...what else I wonder

thanks

Andrew

Hi neighbour irishman. I am going to Croatia aswell in end of July, to the northern parts. Have you found out any interesting information about birding in Croatia? Don´t seem to be easy to find info.

We have 2 members that live in Croatia that I know of one is ivica and the other is Vesna Zadrovec. They are both very interested in Birding and wildlife. They mainly post in the gallery so may not see this thread so it might be worth a PM to either or both of them.

Here is a part of an email that Vesna sent me about birding /nature in Croatia

Touristicly speaking Dubrovnik can offer you the most (if you don't mind the crowd). You can combine bird watching, swimming, sunbathing, sailing, culture, old architecture....

The island of Pag and the Paklenica area are two choice places on the northern coast that are relatively close to each other.

I don't know anything about birding near Dubrovnik.

Warning: No matter where you go on the coast of Croatia in July, It will be mobbed with people. Something close to 10% of the Czech population spend their summer holidays there, and they make up just a portion of the hordes.

Hi - my apologies; had stopped looking at this thread and missed your replies for a while.

Felt a bit silly because I found an ad link for birding holidays from the Birdforum site just after posting. It lists about 8 sites, mostly well to the north of Dubrovnik though - Yzer I'll pass those on to you and we may meet in the middle somewhere!

Marmot and Blackstart - thanks very much for those links - still digesting them.

It's one of those holidays where I'll have duties other than birding...
