Cozumel deer - to be or not to be (1 Viewer)

In preparing for a (November 2017) trip to Cozumel I read an article by Mandy Gardner in the April 2016 edition of Earth Island Journal, describing the elation on the return from suspected extinction of the island's Ssp of white-tailed deer. I was therefore surprised to see a pair of animals that I suspect are the subject about 100 metres off the busy circum-island highway. If they are indeed white-tails, then I was either plumb lucky or they were not quite as extinct as once thought. Or they are newly reintroduced. Or .... Either way .... Hurrah!!!

Not being familiar with New World mammals I would appreciate confirmation (or not) that this is a pair of white-tailed deer.
