Horned Lark (Male) (1 Viewer)

This is definitely not a very good photo. He insisted on having the sun behind and to the right (your left) of him. I will work on getting a better one. However, I choose to post it because you can actually see one of its "horns", which can be very hard to see at all. The "horn" is on the right (its left), that independen black thing sticky up on the curve of his head.

Horned larks are such delightful birds Brian and this is a good photo considering the lighting. They're so colorful even in their winter plumage. There have been no sightings of them in our area due to lack of snowcover and it just doesn't seem like winter without horned larks around :)

At least it's a decent record shot Brian. I always like to get one of a new / unusual bird if I can't manage anything better.
The colours and markings still show which is pretty good going considering the difficult lighting conditions and even a 'horn' is visible.

I've never seen a Horned Lark, so this was a treat! Thanks...you certainly have a diversity of birds and a diversity of pictures, wonderful job! Do you walk around looking or do you find a spot to sit and wait for them?

I have yet to see a Horned Lark, we don't get many here on the West coast and without going "twitching" to see one i think it will be a while till I do get to see one. It's always difficult getting a good shot when the birds back lit, I usually either over or under compensate...ah well it all adds to the fun!
