I was reading through some threads here and came upon this post:
http://www.birdforum.net/showpost.php?p=2003728&postcount=10498
I quote: "There have been a number of red breasts in the last 20 years about ( 5 at the moment in Suffolk ) at a time when their main likely carrier species ( white fronts ) to England in short stopping. There was a project in Holland back in the 1990s ( I am not sure if it is still going ) where captive bred eggs were being placed in barnacle goose nests in Sweden and I suspect that is the most likely origin of many of the birds rather than from the wild Russian population."
I've never heard of some project like that here in Sweden, and I can't find any information online either. I know there has been a (somewhat controversial) project with Lesser White-fronts having Barnacle Geese as foster parents. (Indeed, I see several of these geese every year on their migration.)
Can someone point me to some information about this? I'm just curious as I've never heard anyone in Sweden talk about anything like this... the only discussions about Red-breasted Geese I've ever heard are the usual ones "is it feral or wild?".
