How Do I ... (1 Viewer)

Well, I've got my new CoolPix 4500 and very happy I am too. But how do I change the the USB protocol please? There's no clear instructions in the book, so what I did was to down load the stuff anyway and all seems OK.

There are a lot of functions on the camera which I can't find any clear instructions in how to use, like the 'Shooting Menu' ... how do I get from the basic 'set up' or 'playback menus' to all the others please?

Thanks in advance ...

Ron

Hi Ron

I am pretty sure there is a website with detailed instructions on using coolpix cameras such as yours a chap called CHING-KUANG SHENE has one although I can`t remember the exact website address, maybe somone else on the forum can help?

Regards Stevo.

The manual is pretty aweful, isn't it Ron. I've had my 4500 for a couple of weeks and it was only by some fairly concentrated study that I started to get the hang of it. (And I have a good deal more to learn yet.)

I had trouble working that out too. It's really obscure and the manual is very poor on that point. The question is - can I remember how I did it? If I had the camera here, maybe I could, but unfortunately I left it at my friend's house by mistake tonight.

As I recall, you do need to change it as (for some absolutely stupid reason that is beyond my ken) it defaults to the Windows XP-only mode, and I can't imagine why anyone in their right mind would want that, even if they were running XP. Why use a proprietary format when you can use an industry-standard format that works just fine?

I do remember having to be in some particular mode or other before it will come up n the menu, but I can't remember which one.

Thanks both of you for your replies.

I have been trying to get something from the Nikon UK web-site but that seems as dense as the destruction book. I think its a case of sitting and re-reading the book until it all sinks in I suppose. I know its working OK in its deafult mode but what if I want to get creative in my old age ... viagra dunna work on cameras do it ;-)))

Hello Ron
press menu button and push joystick up then right
this takes you to setup menu
push joystick down on to the first page of setup menu
now press menu button twice to go to the third page of setup and there you will find USB selector

cheers

Ron, you need the Setup menu. Go to either P, A or S mode and push Menu button. The Shooting menu will apear. Push joy stick to the right and the Set Up menu will appear. Using the joystick scroll downward until you reach USB. It's the very last option I believe.

derrrrrrrrrrrrr ... of course I do Joe. Thank you. And thanks for all the other suggestions too. Now all I need to do is get out there and use the camera. As I keep telling my brother, "That's the only way you will learn what it can do." Oh yes, I haven't said have I, my brother has 3 separate Pentax systems ... well, perhaps that's outside the remit of this thread ;-)))

I didn't ... but when I re-read the booklet after reading you're posting, it all became quite obvious. But never mind ... I got there in the end, "With a little help from my friends," as the Beatles once said.

Ron;)
